Research work

In 1997, the reserve formed research department, whose main task - to organize and coordinate research activities, status monitoring and changes in the reference, the pristine ecosystems of the reserve, in protected areas.

Specialty researchers as well as scientists, representatives of academic institutions working on the contract, covers the main activities according to the approved STC and Rosprirodnadzor work plan. The Department of Science and other departments work, biologists, botanists, ornithologists, geologists, experts in forestry, water resources, including two doctor of biological sciences, candidate and 3 post-graduate students. The contract also involved specialists, researchers on research of natural systems and biodiversity, historical and cultural heritage, including archeology and local history.

Work in the field of scientific research and environmental monitoring carried out as forces of academic institutions and universities in Russia and other countries, with the majority of whose mouth-stalled partnership relations. Traditionally command--Reserves along with Ubsunurskaya international center of biospheric research SB RAS and the Tuva Institute for Exploration of Natural Resources SB RAS, work co-ki Tuva, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Perms, who state universities, institutes of archeology, forest and wood, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Central Siberian Botanical garden SB RAS, RNII cultural and natural heritage, and many others. By the scientific work involved students TyvGU, SibGTU, Moscow State University, Perm State University and other universities.

Great job on the description and assessment znachimos-minute sites of historical, cultural and natural heritage on the territory of the reserve has been selling-lana employees Cultural Heritage Institute, St. Petersburg /M.E.Kilunovskaya/, the Institute of History of Material Culture, g.Sankt- Petersburg /V.A.Semenov/, other academic institutions.
Major work on the study, the description of the ecosystem, held since 1984, in the framework of the international research project "Experiment Uvs Nuur", which was attended by scientists from Russia, Mongolia, the United States, Canada, China and many other countries. The research program, continued zhaetsya in our days, the results of which are discussed in the annual international symposia, held alternately in Tuva and Mongolia.

Since the establishment of the scientific department of the reserve, its research and development activities focused on the development and application of scientific methods for the conservation of biological diversity, of natural, historical and cultural complexes and objects in conditions of minimal anthropogenic impact; assessment and prediction of environmental conditions; establish a framework for environmental education, development of regulated recreation and tourism in protected areas. Since 2000, launched the theme "Study of biodiversity", which includes the study of flora and fauna reserve of natural systems, and contains the subsections "Study of flora", "Study of fauna", "Geobotanical research."

The project WWF «Biodiversity Conservation in the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion" in 1998 initiated the study of the state of populations of rare species - Snow leopard and Altai mountain sheep (Argali). Since 2006, work continued under the UNDP / GEF project "Biodiversity Conservation in the Russian Portion of the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion". As a result of research refined the boundaries of the modern habitat argali, obtained information on the number, location and migration paths of various groups leopard and argali.

Currently, the reserve for research new approaches and techniques have been actively used. The monitoring work on argali an integrated approach, in which apart from censuses carried out and assessment of the habitat of this species, the analysis clamping pasture land with pets. The basis for this analysis is the data remote sensing (satellite imagery) - satellite images, and software and hardware system based on GIS software ERDAS IMAGENE and the ArcGIS, as well as satellite navigation GPS devices and PDAs.

As part of the status of the object UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is assigned to the reserve in a single category with the Mongolian reserve "Uvs Nuur", developing cross-border cooperation, held annually fieldwork in adjacent territories "flagship" species in the Altai-Sayan Ecoregion - leopard and argali. Research is conducted in cooperation with the scientific staff and state inspectors PA Altai-Sayan, "Argali" Ltd. with the support of UNDP / GEF project.
Since 2000, conducted ornithological observation, since 2006 GIS mapping of objects of archeology. Since 2002, the Reserve specialists are actively involved in studies of living aquatic resources in the waters of the Republic within the definition of TACs volumes - obschedopustimogo catch fisheries species. The program of integrated monitoring refined and improved the reserve ecosystem.

In general, research and development in the reserve are conducted according to the plan approved by Rosprirodnadzor, the use and study reports conducted research works as a statement, as well as unplanned expeditions to various scientific institutions. Unfortunately, a number of studies, in particular on gerpeto- and entomofauna, glaciology has not been completed, so the information remains fragmentary on them.

June 28, 2013 Mr. I held a meeting of the Russian-Mongolian Joint Commission on transboundary reserve management. It accepted the position of committee and plan joint activities for the near future.
